        What is NWOP?

Neighborhood Watch On Patrol (NWOP) is a 2-way radio group of concerned citizens, joining together to assist local, County and State law enforcement agencies in identifying and reporting suspicious or criminal activities in their neighborhoods. NWOP is not a vigilante group, nor do we possess any law enforcement authority of any kind. We simply observe and report.

While crime prevention is NWOP's primary concern, we are also exploring several different avenues of community service, including:

          1. Recycling Program.
          2. Ohio Adopt-A-Highway Program.
          3. Homeless Shelter Management.
          4. Disaster and Mass Feeding through training offered by the Red Cross.

NWOP is a non-profit organization that depends on donations, fund- raising events, coffee and safety break contributions.

During bad weather, we monitor emergency Channel 9, assisting motorists in distress.

        Our History

NWOP was started by a concerned group of Citizen's Band radio operators in 1992. Despite early hardships and lack of financial support, NWOP became incorporated by the State of Ohio in April, 1996.

For the first time in 1996, NWOP went beyond 'monitoring' Channel 9 by hosting a holiday safety break during the Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends. Coffee and snacks were provided to weary motorists at the State Rest Area. We also helped to keep the highway safe from 'impaired' (drunk) drivers, simply by looking, listening and reporting.

During the Winter of 1995-1996, NWOP answered more than seven hundred emergency calls...reporting everything from accidents to stranded drivers.

During the past five Halloweens, NWOP has been active in promoting public safety, helping locate lost children and aiding police with identification and apprehension of violent crime suspects.

        Goals of NWOP

NWOP has committed itself to the aid and assistance of our community. This includes locating and contacting local block watch commanders to set up neighborhood patrols, check on elderly residents and to recognize problem areas in the community.

        Membership and Volunteers

In the event that you are unable to join but would like to help, donations can be sent to the above address.

        CB Channel Nine

NWOP recommends that the simplest and least expensive form of communication is a Citizen's Band (CB) Radio. A CB can enhance your everyday travels, allowing you to monitor Channel 19 to stay informed of changing traffic conditions, or to report an emergency to NWOP volunteers and Police on Channel 9.

Many neighborhoods have Neighborhood Block Watches or Block Clubs. For information, contact your local Police Department.

In any emgergency, call 911 for assistance in Summit County. To report a Channel 9 emergency, call the local Police department.
