Where's the Right Wing?

I have been watching and researching 1963 since 1963, and in recent weeks have found a great deal of comfort reading Fair Play. The editors and contributors are rendering great service.

After scanning back issues, I find very little about "right wing" domestic groups or individuals. Such as the "Milteer connection", NSRP, etc. I would also be very interested in anything available on mobster Paul Roland Jones and what became of him after the F.B.I. interviews in '63 and '64.

P.J. Smith

We don't know what ever happened to Paul Roland Jones. Anyone who has info on this is invited to drop us a line.

As for the right wing connection, we can only publish those articles which are submitted to us. And we just haven't had much of anything on Milteer, et al. That doesn't mean we are downplaying the significance of this area of investigation.

A Secret Service Story

A few years ago I worked in a bookstore in St. Paul, Minnesota, and was the resident JFK assassination buff. On one of my days off a man came in looking for books on the assassination , and a coworker referred the man to me, and he left his card. My coworker scribbled on the back of the card that the man had interviewed Clint Hill. I was of course interested, and called him up. He told me he was doing a term paper, and that his uncle, a former Secret Service agent, had introduced him to Hill, who had retired to St. Paul. Then he told me his uncle's story.

The uncle claims to have been scheduled for the Dallas trip originally, but shortly before he and some other sharpshooters (he likes to say that if he had been there, "Oswald would never have gotten off a second shot") were taken off the trip by LBJ. The uncle says he still has the written orders, signed by LBJ. The uncle, who worked as a sheriff after leaving the Service, has told his story to the local papers a couple times over the years when they did JFK assassination retrospectives.

I recommended a few books to the nephew, told him I'd be happy to answer any questions he had, and rushed home to check the story. I found no references on this in any of the books. The closest I came was in "Crossfire" and others, that Agent Hill had not been originally scheduled for the trip, but had come at the request of Mrs. Kennedy. This demonstrated that there had been late changes; one could infer that Hill might have been a replacement.

I was excited by this potentially unknown twist, but the next time I spoke with the nephew, again on the phone, he seemed to be a little reserved. I think he was concerned that I might keep calling him with questions if he continued being open with me. Recently I started thinking about this whole story again, but I am reluctant to try to contact him given his obvious second-thoughts years ago. I haven't been able to locate the newspaper articles, but they could be in any number of Minneapolis/St. Paul publications. At this point I have lost or forgotten the uncle's name--I'm not sure which; had I known that the nephew would pull back from me I would have taken notes, but I had reason to assume I would be in further contact with him. In our first conversation he even hinted that he might be able to introduce me to Hill. Has anyone heard this story, seen these articles, or even heard that Hill did in fact retire to Minnesota? The dark implications of LBJ taking the Secre! t Service's best shooters off a dangerous presidential visit are obvious. So if there is any truth to this story it deserves further investigation, and should be looked into by the ARRB.

I would appreciate any help on this...

Background Check

I like the white background -- much easier to read! If the last issue already had the white background, it didn't register with me; but it did just now, checking the newest issue.

As usual, thanks for Fair Play. I always look forward to the new issues.

Now I'll go start reading it!

Regards,

Cheryl

The Truth is Obvious

When people occassionally ask me, "where can I find some good information?", I always recommend your site.

Other people doing evaluations and providing insights to the murder are also told, "let's get it to John K. on 'Fair Play'".

At times it seems like a hopeless task, I'm sure. Many simply believe Gerald Posner, and stop there. Many believe the Warren Report, and stop there. They can't believe that others have examined evidence and come to different conclusions; conclusions that clearly and obviously point to a conspiracy.

While the vast majority of Americans, Europeans, Russians and others believe that this murder was not the work of one man, some will continue to believe the lie. They will disregard Nixon and his "Bay of Pigs" comments; they will refuse to believe that men in power can be anything less than honorable. They will dismiss "Watergate" and "Iran-Contra", they will dismiss the assassinations of other country's leaders - accomplished and proven to be our own policy.

In light of this, to keep a flame alive about what was the first, and most important assassination of our time, is difficult and sometimes very wearing upon the soul. The fact that we have become "used" to it as a matter of doing business, is even more frightening. The fact that most Americans feel there is little we can actually do about it, is the most frightening of all, in a nation supposedly based upon the people actually governing themselves.

So John, I salute you and all the people that perhaps visit your site, as at least looking at the evidence to some degree, hoping to find the truth about how our country changed for the worse from November 22, 1963, to the present day.

For anyone with an open mind, the truth is obvious. For those that see only the government's view, the open mind died a long time ago.

Best Regards,

-John Austin

Jackie and the Dart

For a few years I've been seeing something in the Zapruder that has not been mentioned by any author or material I have ever read. Everyone knows that there are some people who think that the Umbrella Man used his umbrella to fire a dart that struck Kennedy in the throat, but no real evidence has been cited to prove this. There may be something, though it is far from conclusive. During the Z-film, attention is paid primarily to Kennedy and Connally, as they are the ones being wounded, but Jackie's movements may shed some light on the dart theory.

In the beginning, Jackie is looking away to her left. The first shot is fired and she turns to JFK. She leans close to him, placing her right arms around his shoulders. As the film progresses, she leans down to look at his face, and her left hand moves close to his throat area. It remains like this until the head shot. JFK is hit in the head. Then, Jackie sits up. At the same time, her left hand moves away from JFK's throat area and it appears to meet her right hand. Just after JFK hits the seat and begins to fall forward, Jackie's right hand appears to flip something out of the back of the car. It is only a part of a second, but it is there.

This doesn't prove anything, but if the dart were in JFK's throat, wouldn't Jackie have seen it when she looked into his face? And if she saw it, wouldn't she have removed it in the hope that it would ease her husband's pain? And if she threw it out of the back of the car, would it have ever been found? Cars and pedestrians would have crsuhed it. It would be lost forever. And Jackie wouldn't have remembered it because she claimed to not remember the exact events of the shooting.

This is all speculation, but it makes for an interesting thought.

Thought I would pass this along. Do with it what you will.

Thanks

Hard Copy

I have been to your Fair Play site several times now and have never been able to figure out how to subscribe to a hard copy version of your magazine. Is there a hard copy version of your magazine? If so please send me subscribtion info. THANKS!

Thanks for writing.

There is no hard copy version of Fair Play. It's a web zine only. We've toyed with the idea of making a hard copy version, but at present it is simply not feasible. In its current form, Fair Play is unique, especially given its "newstand price." If you seek a hard copy journal on this subject, by all means check out The Fourth Decade, JFK/Deep Politics Quarterly, The Dealey Plaza Echo, or The Assassination Chronicles, among others. Info on each of these fine publications can be found on Fair Play's "Who's Who and What's What" page.

Mad As Hell

YOU SHOULD E-MAIL PEOPLE BACK WHEN THEY SEND MESSEGS TO YOU OR YOU LOOSE COSTOMERS.

tazman

Matter of fact, I do. I don't recall you emailing me before. Still, I wrote you back an apologetic email and you ignored it, so I guess there's no way I can rectify the situation you imply, can I?

Appreciation

Thanks for a most informative Internet magazine dealing with one of the most significant issues of our time. Keeping us aware of ARRB developments, conferences, new books, etc. is most appreciated. I eagerly wait each bi-monthly issue to stay current as far as the on-going investigation is concerned. You and your contributors really provide a valuable service that many, many people value. Best wishes and thanks again, TN
